Zaimoku Rock Park: The Natural Beauty of Japan's National Monument

Located downstream of the "Shichikashuku Dam" in the upper reaches of the Shiroishi River, the "Zaimoku Rock," a national natural monument, stands at an impressive height of 65 meters and spans approximately 100 meters in width. The "Water and Stone Dialogue Park," which utilizes the abundant water of the Shiroishi River and the stones found in this area, offers a serene spot to enjoy the natural beauty of "Zaimoku Rock" from across the river while immersing yourself in the nature of Obara. In spring, the park is adorned with vibrant cherry blossoms and fresh greenery. From late April to the Golden Week in May, the "Koinobori Streamer Festival" takes place, making it a hidden gem where visitors can capture the cherry blossoms alongside carp streamers swimming in the sky. In autumn, the park attracts numerous visitors from within and outside the prefecture who come to witness the breathtaking scenery created by the stunning autumn foliage and the majestic rock formations. Within Zaimoku Rock Park, you can freely explore the "Former Kamitozawa Magistrate Residence - Kimura Family House," a designated tangible cultural property of Miyagi Prefecture. This residence, reconstructed using materials from its original construction in the mid-Edo period, faithfully reproduces the mansion that symbolized the post town. The house also features numerous valuable exhibits, including ancient documents and wooden plaques, offering a glimpse into the past.
