Yunnan has a unique fossil village in China—Laoxudian Village

Laoxudian Village is located in Niujie Town, Shiping County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 48 kilometers away from the county seat. Hidden deep in the Ailao Mountains and characterized by karst topography, it is currently the only village in China that uses fossils to construct houses, hence it is also known as the "Fossil Village". In December 2018, the village was included in the fifth batch of China's traditional village list. Check-in route: Navigate to Laoxudian Village Committee. There is no direct transportation, so it is recommended to drive by yourself. It takes about an hour to drive from the county seat, via Provincial Highway 212. The village is not very large; it can be toured in half an hour, and there are few food options. Since you are in Niujie Town, you can also check out Dalian Mountain and Xianrenzuo. If you are lucky, you might see a sea of clouds.
