Delicious Katsudon in Yamaguchi

During my trip to Yamaguchi, I visited Shimonoseki. After enjoying lunch at Karato Market, I returned to the hotel for a bit. Later, while wandering around looking for dinner, I stumbled upon a charming soba restaurant tucked away in an alley. This place is a long-established shop with over 50 years of history! 😳 The menu is quite diverse, offering not just soba but also rice bowls, set meals, and à la carte dishes. Their most popular dish, as voted by regular customers, is the "Spicy Meat Nanban Curry Soba." ❣️ ────────────── 🥢 Katsudon… 850 yen 🥢 Tsuke Toro Soba… 850 yen ────────────── The soba here, true to the shop's name, is slightly thick and dark-colored, known as "Inaka Soba" (rustic soba). It has a firm texture and a unique flavor and mouthfeel compared to the usual thin soba noodles, which might divide opinions. 🤔 My personal favorite is the "Katsudon." The pork used is fresh and sourced from Kagoshima. It's carefully deep-fried at a low temperature to achieve a crispy texture. 🐷 The breading is crunchy, thin yet satisfying to bite into. The sauce is mildly sweet and light, making it easy to eat without feeling greasy or heavy.
