The last standing SHIXIA DIAOLOU

Located in the west entrance of Shixia village in Futian lies the last diaolou of Shixia. Diaolou are made up of stone, pise, brick or concrete (but no cement). These kinds of buildings are from Ming Dynasty that serves as communal tower for families who built it for temporary refuge; as a residential tower for ricj families who built it and used as a fortified residence; and as a watch tower in defense with local banditry.
