This particular corner of Shajing Central park is a replica of what seemed to be a warrior's pit. In the Roman era, they use these venues for gladiatorial games. These are battles between the strongest and bravest warriors at that time. Bloodsport as we call it nowadays. Today, this ampitheater~like venue are used to host open concert for local artists, for a light show and even for dance mob (with the old aunties). And audience gather round the area to watch the performances.
