Xiaoqing Building

Xiaoqing Building is located in the east courtyard of Zhang's Marshal Mansion. It is also known as the "Garden Hall" because it is located in the center of the garden of Zhang's Marshal Mansion. It is a two-story brick-wood structure building with a combination of Chinese and Western styles. It was built in 1918 and is commonly known as Xiaoqing Building because it is made of blue bricks and tiles. Xiaoqing Building was built by Zhang Zuolin in 1918 for his favorite fifth wife, Shou Shi. Shou Shi (1898-1966), whose name was Yi, married Zhang Zuolin in 1917 and gave birth to four sons, Xuesen, Xuejun, Xueying, and Xuequan. The west room on the first floor of this building was the living room, and the east room was the bedroom. The east room on the second floor was the bedroom of Shou Shi's son, and the west room was the bedroom of the sixth wife, Ma Yueqing (1905-1965). In 1923, she moved into the Marshal Mansion as the maid of the fifth wife. After giving birth to her daughter Huaimin in 1924, she was honored as the sixth wife.
