Songzanlin Monastery

Songzanlin Monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan Province and the center of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism in the Sichuan-Yunnan area. From a distance, it looks similar to the Potala Palace, so it is known as the "Little Potala Palace." The monastery is built on a mountain and looks like an ancient castle. The main buildings are the Zhacang and Jikang halls, the eight Kangcan halls, and the monks' quarters. The buildings are arranged in a staggered manner, highlighting the grandeur of the main buildings. In front of Songzanlin Monastery is Lamuyangcuo Lake, which is said to be the soul lake of the goddess Bandan Lhamo.
