Beyond the Frame

🐢 This article is being edited at the best time of autumn, adding a bit of warmth and reducing a bit of chill; within a small space, Nan Di grows wild. · 🐢 I have seen many photography exhibitions, but this one stands out with a unique perspective and an innovative approach. It tries to show us that under different techniques, even the same negative can be "developed" into different effects. Beyond the image lies imaginative and aesthetic recreation. Nowadays, we increasingly pursue high-end equipment, high resolution, high precision, and high AI synthesis. While the works become more eye-catching, the pure joy we get from them is diminishing. · 🐢 Focusing on presenting small-scale, slow craftsmanship and authentic grainy textures, the exhibition label beside the photo details the techniques used: platinum printing, platinotype, albumen printing, gelatin etching, cyanotype toning... These techniques are beyond my understanding, but I see a cluster of irises with a printmaking texture, sketches, and seaside women reminiscent of Impressionist artists’ brushstrokes... These effects must have taken countless attempts to achieve. · 🐢 This exhibition is best enjoyed quietly and slowly. However, it must be said that in today’s fast-paced world, truly slowing down is not easy. For example, I originally wanted to title this article "The Slow Past Beyond the Image," but worried it wouldn’t be understood, so I changed it to the current title. Through this, I also realized my own inner restlessness, sighing deeply. · 🐢 Beyond the frame, within the universe, the microscopic world we can glimpse requires a calm mind.
