Staying in a Century-Old Villa on Shanghai's Wukang Road to Experience the Charm of Bygone Eras

This trip to Shanghai, I checked into the incredibly popular Seclusion & Splendor Wukang Road Mansion, and the experience was absolutely top-notch—I just had to share it with everyone! 📍Prime Location: The mansion is located at Lane 100, Wukang Road, in one of Shanghai's most artistic and cultural neighborhoods. Wukang Road itself is steeped in history, lined with numerous heritage buildings, earning the reputation of "one Wukang Road, half of China's literary history." Surrounded by trendy cafes, unique restaurants, and fashionable boutiques, you can instantly soak up Shanghai's chic vibe just by stepping outside. A short walk will take you to the iconic Wukang Building, a perfect spot for photos. 🏠A Blend of History and Modernity: The mansion consists of four three-story British-style villas, originally built in 1918 as apartments for senior staff of the Texaco Petroleum Company. Today, it retains much of its original architectural charm. Inside, you'll find retro herringbone wooden ceilings, intricate carvings, and a grand wooden staircase, all exuding historical elegance. Yet, the facilities are thoroughly modern, with central air conditioning and 1000M high-speed fiber-optic Wi-Fi throughout, ensuring a comfortable stay. 🛏️Diverse and Exquisite Room Types: With only 20 guest rooms but 8 unique room types, each space is distinctive. The rooms are named using Shanghainese dialect terms like "Diǎ," "Fiào," and "Cái," adding a local flair. I stayed in the Deluxe Terrace Room, which was spacious, cozy, and featured a large private terrace. Lounging on the terrace, soaking up the sun and watching the street scenes, was pure bliss. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, and came with full L'Occitane amenities—attention to detail was impeccable. 💁‍♂️Thoughtful Service: The hotel staff's attitude was beyond reproach—warm and attentive from check-in to check-out, making me feel right at home. A welcome fruit platter was prepared upon arrival, and the minibar drinks were complimentary. 🍽️Delicious Dining: Breakfast offered a nutritious spread of Western-style dishes, including fresh bread, fruits, and coffee, perfect for starting the day energized. The hotel also houses the Michelin-starred Wukang Garden Restaurant, so you can enjoy authentic Western cuisine without even leaving the premises. In short, Seclusion & Splendor Wukang Road Mansion is truly a hidden gem. Whether you're visiting for travel or leisure, it promises a one-of-a-kind experience.
