Today, I want to introduce a place that has been the site of the Shanghai Race Club since the city’s modern opening. Many tourists know about Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street in Shanghai, which ranks among the top nationwide and even globally. For those more familiar with Shanghai, you might know about People’s Square in the city center, which connects to the Nanjing West Road commercial area and extends all the way to Jing’an Temple and Jiangsu Road. However, in the past, People’s Square was not a naturally formed plaza. On the contrary, during modern Shanghai times, it was actually a horse racing track. So, what I want to introduce today is the original Shanghai Art Museum, now the Shanghai History Museum (No. 325 Nanjing West Road, Huangpu District), an absolute must-visit spot in Shanghai. The reason I recommend it is, of course, because it offers introductions to ancient, modern, and contemporary Shanghai, making it impossible to miss; more importantly, it allows you to gain a deep and comprehensive understanding of the city of Shanghai. Transportation is very convenient, just take Metro Lines 1, 2, or 8 to People’s Square Station and exit at Exit 11. There are many must-visit attractions around People’s Square, such as the International Hotel, Grand Cinema, Shanghai Museum, and Grand Theatre, all landmark buildings nearby. After visiting, you’ll feel that Shanghai is a city of revolution, a city of progress, a city of the people, and a city of innovative development; the future of Shanghai will surely include you, me, and everyone. What you absolutely cannot miss, in my opinion, is the architectural style and design of modern Shanghai. From a single brick to a pane of glass, to handrails, steps, and even the placement of exhibits and decorations, it is all filled with rich Haipai style and cultural heritage. Stepping into the old Race Club site, besides leisurely touring, you can also go up to the rooftop bar to enjoy delicious food while admiring the Magic City skyline, which is truly breathtaking.
