Kimpton Shanghai Qiantan Hotel, designed by Robin Carter with the concept of a "modern library," blends Shanghai-style Shikumen elements with contemporary minimalist aesthetics. The floating book wall installation in the center of the lobby displays 3,000 rare books, accompanied by holographic projections dynamically presenting historical editions of Shen Bao newspaper. Guest rooms feature rotating glass partitions that switch between work and rest modes with one touch, and a custom minibar embedded with AI book recommendation functions. The rooftop "Cloud Reading Room" offers a writer-in-residence program and hosts immersive literary salons monthly, where participants can join script readings dressed in custom qipao. The underground swimming pool replicates the Bund's architectural outlines with glazed tiles, creating reflections along the Huangpu River through light and shadow projections at night. Within its first month of opening, it won the Design Anthology Annual Cultural Space Award and garnered over 200 million social media impressions.
