The sense of awe is truly indescribable! At night, the Bund looks like a bustling scene straight out of an old movie, yet it also feels like stepping into a neon-lit dream world. It’s definitely worth experiencing in person~ Here are some of my travel tips that I hope will help you! 1. Best Viewing Time The Bund’s lights usually turn on around 6 PM. It’s recommended to arrive between 5 and 6 PM so you can see the Bund during the day and witness the moment when night falls and the lights come on, experiencing two completely different kinds of beauty🌆. It’s great for viewing until about 10 or 11 PM, but if you stay too late, some lights might be turned off, which could affect your photos. 2. Excellent Viewing Spots • The Bund Viewing Platform: Located right by the river, it offers an amazing, unobstructed view of the Lujiazui skyscrapers in Pudong and the historic international architecture on the Bund. It’s the most classic spot, and every photo you take here looks fantastic📸. • The Origin of the Bund: This is the starting point of the Bund, where many historic buildings are preserved, giving you a feel of old Shanghai’s charm. Standing here and looking at the entire Bund creates a beautiful sense of time crossing. • Zhapu Road Bridge: A favorite among photography enthusiasts, here you can capture stunning shots of the Suzhou River and the “Big Four” of Lujiazui (Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower) all in one frame. The blue hour here is breathtaking! 3. Recommended Itinerary In the afternoon, start by exploring the Origin of the Bund, strolling along the historic streets and admiring the old buildings. Then walk south along the Bund Viewing Platform, enjoying the diverse styles of international architecture. In the evening, head to Zhapu Road Bridge to take beautiful photos. If you want a different experience, try the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel to enjoy the changing lights on both sides of the Huangpu River. 4. Food Recommendations • Shengjian Bao (Pan-fried Pork Buns): Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, biting into one releases a burst of soup—super satisfying. • Xiaolongbao (Soup Dumplings): Thin skin, big filling, full of delicious broth. Paired with shredded ginger and vinegar, the taste is amazing. • Pork Ribs with Rice Cake: A traditional Shanghai snack, the ribs are crispy outside and tender inside, the rice cake is soft and chewy, and the sauce is rich. There are many snack stalls and restaurants near Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street and the Origin of the Bund where you can enjoy these delicacies. Eating while strolling is super pleasant😋. 5. Helpful Tips • Weekends and holidays can be very crowded, so keep your belongings safe, especially when taking photos—don’t lose your phone or camera. • If you want to take photos, find your angle in advance; it’s hard to get good shots when it’s crowded. • Bad weather can greatly affect the night view, so try to visit on clear nights.
