A Branch of Pear Blossoms Outshines the Begonia

Shanghai Flower Viewing | Pear Blossoms | Yanchun Park I took a bus and transferred to two subway lines to see the pear blossoms in Yanchun Park. It took me an hour and a half to finally arrive. Fortunately, it only took two minutes to get to the park entrance from the Yanji Middle Road subway station. Yanchun Park is a small place, sandwiched between buildings, nothing more than a green space in the heart of the city. Walking along the path, within a few steps, I saw the pear tree. The tree is indeed large, with crisscrossing branches and densely packed flowers. From a distance, it creates the illusion of a pear blossom forest. There are two other pear trees nearby, but they appear thin in comparison. The flowers are pure white, and upon closer inspection, the petals have faint green veins. Looking up from under the tree, the blossoms against the sky appear quite elegant. Begonia trees are planted beneath the pear tree, but they haven't bloomed yet. Naturally, the pear blossoms steal the visitors' attention. This scene reminds me of the old saying, "A branch of pear blossoms outshines the begonia." There's no sign next to the tree, so people are guessing its age. "It must be over a hundred years old, right?" "I think it's more than that, at least two hundred years." "Could this be Shanghai's No. 1 pear tree?" Discussions fill the air. An elderly man is particularly enthusiastic, telling everyone he encounters that the tree was already this big when he was a child, gesturing with his hands as he speaks.
