Panlong Ancient Town

Shanghai Panlong Ancient Town is located in Xujing Town, Qingpu District, and is a historic Jiangnan water town. The history of Panlong Ancient Town can be traced back to the Sui Dynasty over 1,400 years ago. It is a typical prosperous Jiangnan town that developed due to its proximity to water and commerce. The ancient town is home to the district-level cultural relic protection unit Xianghua Bridge and the Panlong Temple, which is frequented by pilgrims. These historical sites bear witness to the town's rich history and culture. However, with the advent of industrialization, Panlong Ancient Town gradually transformed into a "village in the city" with poor environmental conditions in the 1990s. Small factories and workshops were mixed with residential areas, leading to the destruction of ancient buildings and the town's original layout. To protect the town's historical and cultural heritage, the Panlong Community "village in the city" renovation project was approved in June 2018. After years of planning, construction, and refinement, Panlong Tiandi officially opened in April 2023. The renovated Panlong Ancient Town has been revitalized into a comprehensive area that integrates history, culture, tourism, leisure, and commercial activities. The renovation project covers a total area of 752 mu, including approximately 230,000 square meters of commercial and residential space. The district is centered around the cultural heritage of Jiangnan water towns and features the "New Ten Scenic Spots of Panlong," such as Qu Shui Ying Ju, Xi Qiao Yu Bo, and Yan Yu Lang Qiao, further enhancing the town's tourism value.
