How lucky to have a chance encounter with a grand exhibition of ancient Egyptian civilization in Shanghai. This is the largest exhibition of ancient Egyptian artifacts outside of Egypt and the highest-level exhibition in Asia to date, and it has unsurprisingly garnered a lot of attention both online and offline. When people visit museums, they expect more than just artifacts and exhibits. Puzzle games, museum cultural creations, and the "Cat Night" where you can bring your cat to the exhibition... Visitors "cross" time and space through various cultural derivatives. The highlight exhibits in this exhibition include statues of pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III, and Ramses II, complete sets of mummy coffins, queen's gold jewelry, and newly discovered painted wooden coffins, animal mummies, and statues from the Saqqara region. More than 95% of the artifacts in this exhibition are coming to Asia for the first time. The exhibition is divided into three sections: "The Land of Pharaohs," "The Secrets of Saqqara," and "The World of Tutankhamun," each telling an independent story from different perspectives to let the audience understand the charm of ancient Egyptian civilization. It takes almost 10,000 steps to see all three exhibitions, making it a fitness exhibition tour. "The Land of Pharaohs" tells a condensed history of ancient Egyptian civilization and compares it with several ancient Chinese artifacts to showcase the diversity and commonality of human civilization. We saw many rare Egyptian artifacts, including real murals, pottery, sculptures, masks, and mummy coffins. The colorful and ornate patterns, along with various Egyptian hieroglyphs and the historical stories told by the guides, were truly breathtaking. "The Secrets of Saqqara" focuses on the painted wooden coffins, animal mummies, and cat temple ruins unearthed in Saqqara, one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in the world in 2020. It will be the first time that the major discoveries made by the Egyptian archaeological team in this area over the past decade will be systematically announced, making it the world's first exhibition to reveal the secrets of Saqqara. This time, the Shanghai Museum has really gone all out, creating an immersive exhibition experience for the audience through exhibition narratives, artifact displays, and digital technology in an exhibition space of 3,000 square meters. After watching the exhibition, I felt that I had gained a lot, and I highly recommend it for taking the kids!
