Yu Garden

Yu Garden is located at 168 Fuyou Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. It was originally a private garden in the Ming dynasty. The owner of the garden, Pan Yunduan, was the governor of Sichuan. His father, Pan En, was the left capital censor of the Censorate and the minister of the Ministry of Justice. Pan En resigned and returned to his hometown when he was old. In order to let his father enjoy his old age, Pan Yunduan spent more than 20 years building Yu Garden, which was recognized as the "crown of famous gardens in southeast China" in the middle and late Ming dynasty. Yu Garden has the typical style of Jiangnan gardens, reflecting the artistic style of "elegance and delicacy" of southern gardens in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The garden also preserves a considerable number of ancient trees and famous wood, as well as cultural relics such as Ming and Qing furniture, calligraphy and paintings by famous people, clay sculptures, brick carvings, plaques, and couplets, which embody the essence of traditional Chinese culture and art. A poem says: The blessed land is hidden by the Shanghai River, and the garden is built for 20 years to serve the parents. The pavilions are scattered in the virtual realm, and the flowers and trees are separated from the secular world. The strange stones are as old as the world, and the ink shines on the new. It should be said that the crown of the southeast in the prosperous times, who knows Pan Lang's filial piety?
