I usually choose some old and historic hotels in Shanghai. I chose InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin in Huangpu District, which was a red brick building in the French Concession during the Republic of China period. It is said that it was the hotel where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling got engaged. I didn't check whether it was true or not, but I believed it because the road was in line with Soong Mei-ling's aesthetics. The plane trees she loved were planted along the road, adding a lot of romance to the marriage. The hotel was also the prototype of the Xing'anli Garden Hotel in "Chenghuanji". I stayed in Building 3. The room was not high and was decorated in the old Shanghai style. It was not as bright as the new five-star hotels. This was inevitable because it was old. It was clean and comfortable, which was a must. The hotel staff were polite and reserved. The main building was the check-in hall. There was a lady playing the piano in the hall. The magnificent hall was next to a lobby bar and a restaurant. They were all decorated in the old Shanghai style and were very elegant. The VIP building of the hotel had a gym and a swimming pool. The swimming pool was very clean and there were not many people. The gym was also well-equipped. People who like fitness must go and experience it. The hotel's breakfast was mostly Western style. There were various kinds of bread and cheese. The ingredients were very good. In the evening, you can walk out of the hotel and walk along Fumin Road, Changle Road, and Huaihai Road. There was a little wind in the summer night. Everyone would come out for a walk. The small shops were also well decorated. There were exquisite ice cream shops opened by Shanghai uncles and jewelry shops opened by young ladies!
