🌈 Mehdi Ghadyanloo | Stolen Memories 📅 2024.5.18 - 7.28 Born in Iran, Mehdi Ghadyanloo grew up in an era dominated by theocratic rule and ravaged by war, instilling in him a longing for a better life from a young age. In Ghadyanloo's paintings, the most recurring motifs are display windows (or boxes) and children's play equipment. In his recent works, Ghadyanloo has depicted a series of children's play structures—slides and merry-go-rounds—in various sizes, shapes, and vibrant colors, mostly placed inside box-like display windows. With the lighting from above, these scenes evoke a sense of surrealism and symbolism. On Museum Day, May 18th, the final stop of the journey was at the Long Museum. A long queue formed at the entrance, and upon seeing the museum's notice that the wait would be two hours, I immediately decided to retreat. While everyone was rushing to the main exhibition, this outstanding exhibition in the annex was not overly crowded, thankfully allowing me not to leave empty-handed.
