The century-old Nanpu Station is now open! Xuhui Riverside welcomes a new landmark

In recent years, many industrial buildings have been transformed into cultural spaces, becoming popular photo spots and social media check-in locations. This blend of tradition and modernity is particularly beloved by the youth. Recently, a new landmark has appeared at the northern end of Xuhui Riverside. The historic Nanpu Station has been transformed into a trendy little garden, dazzling everyone. At No. 288 Ruining Road, the metal fences that once stood have been dismantled in the past two days, revealing the long-hidden interior to the public. This place, created by Hong Kong Land's West Bund Financial City, is a waterfront lifestyle destination called 'Station 1907 Starting Point' (hereinafter referred to as 'Starting Point 1907'). There are five distinctive scenes created here, including Platform No. 8, the Station Master's Cottage, the Chinese Tallow Forecourt, the Dreamy Garden, and the Secret Trail, offering a variety of characteristic spaces. With the concept of an open-air art museum, the outdoor art sculptures on the lawn are tangible and have attracted a large number of citizens to come and check in. It is understood that Starting Point 1907 was originally the Jihui Port Warehouse, established in the 33rd year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (that is, in 1907). With the development of the times, the warehouse has successively been transformed into Shanghai South Station and Nanpu Train Station. This is not only the earliest railway freight warehouse in Shanghai but also the earliest and only surviving water and land transport hub in Shanghai after its port opening. For over a century, it has served as a pioneer of China's industrial civilization and a starting point connecting the world. Moreover, the old photographs of Nanpu Station can be seen on the walls and floors, and citizens can even scan the QR codes on the walls to learn about its historical stories.
