Oh So Tasty

Century-Long Legend — The Peace Hotel in Shanghai

The recent premiere of "Blooming Flowers" 🎞 has stirred up my fond memories of the delightful time I spent at the Peace Hotel in Shanghai. The TV series perfectly encapsulates the cultural charm and allure of old Shanghai, a portrayal that is truly commendable. I was fortunate enough to stay in the Fairmont room. [Pushpin] Reasons for my stay: [One] My decision to stay at the Peace Hotel was primarily to immerse myself in the historical ambiance of old Shanghai. Despite the somewhat dated facilities of the hotel 🏨, I found that it has been well-maintained, especially considering its establishment in 1929. [Two] The history of the Peace Hotel dates back to the late 1920s. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic buildings of its time, bearing witness to numerous significant historical events and stories 📚. As I stepped into the lobby, I felt as though I had been transported back to a bygone era. [Three] The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. They provided me with a comprehensive room service menu. I had my dinner [Tableware] sorted and opted for a recommended specialty dish. The texture and taste of the food exceeded my expectations. [Four] The hotel pays great attention to detail. From the entrance to the guest rooms, traces of the past are palpable. The hotel's decor retains the style of its time, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Although some facilities may not meet modern needs, the hotel strives to preserve its historical charm. 📝 About the experience: [One] Before dinner, I marked my visit at the "Tiny Times" staircase. I was quite thrilled 😁. [Two] In the morning, we had breakfast 🍳 at a small restaurant. The menu was not extensive, and guests were not allowed to wear slippers, so I was asked to change my footwear before entering. [Three] However, the highlight was the evening performance by the elderly jazz band 🎺. There, we experienced the glitz and glamour of Shanghai nightlife. Many foreigners also attended the performance, possibly drawn by the historical atmosphere of the Peace Hotel. Although the performance ended at midnight and we only arrived at 11, there were no vacant seats. Nevertheless, the ambiance was fantastic, especially with a glass of red wine 🍷 in hand. 🗒 In conclusion: Regardless of your purpose in Shanghai, choosing the right accommodation is crucial. If you prioritize modern facilities and service quality, I recommend staying at a new hotel 🏩. However, if you wish to experience the charm of old Shanghai, a stay at the Peace Hotel is a must. #thingstodoshanghai
