The Jade Buddha Temple, located in the bustling urban area of Shanghai, is named for the jade Buddha statues it primarily enshrines. As it belongs to the Linji school of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, where Chan meditation is practiced, it is also known as the Jade Buddha Zen Temple. It is one of the top ten tourist attractions in Shanghai and is referred to as a pure land in the midst of chaos due to its tranquil setting amidst the hustle and bustle. Since 2014, due to the initiation of historically large-scale renovations, the architectural regulation of the Jade Buddha Zen Temple has been upgraded from the original 'residential-style' temple to the pattern of a 'traditional Jiangnan-style monastery'.
