Chariots of the Han Dynasty

Chariots were the main means of transportation in ancient China, used for traveling, hunting, and warfare. Emperors of all dynasties made regulations on the rank system of chariots, and no one was allowed to overstep. There were various types of chariots in the Han Dynasty, and people of different statuses often rode different chariots, reflecting the hierarchical concept of feudal society where there was order and distinction between the superior and the inferior. According to historical records, the highest-ranking chariot in the Han Dynasty was the 'Golden Root Chariot' ridden by the emperor, while ordinary officials used chariots like the light chariot and the heavy chariot.
