🇰🇷 The Soul of Seoul: My Favourite Experiences

I made a 6-day trip to Seoul back in September and October, as a city break and to also meet some of my Korean friends. It was my first time in Seoul, so let me share some of my favourite experiences! 1️⃣ Gyeongbokgung Palace 🏯 A must-see for any first-time visitor to Korea! The palace is a very grand complex, but it is a pity that a lot of it was actually destroyed during Korea’s time as a Japanese colony. Do check out the Changing of the Guard at 10AM or at 2PM, it. Is a grand spectacle! Behind the main palace, there is also the National Folk Museum where you can relax and learn about traditional Korean traditions. 2️⃣ DMZ Tour 🇰🇵 The huge military presence in Seoul (My visited coincided with their Armed Forces Day) is a constant reminder of how close the South Korean capital is to the hostile North Korea. A tour to the DMZ is a must to learn about the history of the Korean War. The tour takes about 7 hours to and back. My group’s guide Eden was amazing at explaining the effect of the war on the South Korean psyche. 3️⃣ Street Performances 🤹♂️ One thing I really loved about the streets of Seoul is how lively and energetic it is, throughout the day and night. I was blessed to see an incredible acrobatics-style performance at Insadong, and a really great sing-a-long session at Myeongdong where I stayed. 4️⃣ Namsan🗼 Some of the best sunset views of Seoul are from Namsan. You can take the cable car up, and while it is constantly touristy and crowded, the view would not disappoint. Awesome spot for photographers! 5️⃣ Han River light show ✨ There was a drone show at the Hangang Park when I visited, so I went to check it out. The drone show was spectacular, drawing in huge crowds of both locals and tourists. After the show ended, many people sat on the banks of the river to eat supper - primarily instant food like ramyeon and fried chicken. I bought a really special marshmallow ice cream for myself!
