Seoul Lantern Festival | So, in Korea, every festival eventually turns into a big party

Every year, the 8th day of the 4th lunar month (which falls on May 15th this year in the Gregorian calendar) is Buddha's Birthday. Lantern lighting celebrations are held throughout Korea. Although it was originally a Buddhist festival, it has now become a day of joy for everyone: various cultural activities during the day, and at night, colorful lantern parades and song and dance parties, making it a lively and festive celebration.😄 I happened to be in Korea during the Lantern Festival on a previous trip. So, during the day, there were all sorts of martial arts and music performances, and you could even make your own lantern🏮 As evening approached, the lantern procession began its march through the streets. Exquisitely crafted lanterns of the Four Heavenly Kings, lions, tigers, dragons, elephants, as well as girls and grandmothers in traditional costumes, song and dance instruments, children and monks, all carrying small lanterns, singing and dancing with joy❤️ Finally, we arrived at the main stage, where everyone sang, played instruments, clapped, and partied together, turning it into a big party where locals and tourists happily participated. It was a little surprise during my trip to Korea. After participating in various festivals at home and abroad, my biggest takeaway is that festivals are about harboring good intentions, relaxing, sharing joy, and offering love and sincere blessings🙏 🌟 Attached: Information on the 2024 Lantern Festival Activities 🏮 Seoul Lantern Festival Celebration From May 10th to 12th, with the street parade taking place on the evening of the 11th from 7:00-9:30 PM. Jogyesa Temple

The Jogyesa Temple (the center of Korean Buddhism) is the main and the head temple of the Jogye order, in Seoul. Built in the 14th century, it opens its doors for visitors all year round (located two blocks away from Jonggak Station). Celebrations for Buddha’s Birthday together with the annual lantern festival are held in this temple. If you visit Korea during April/May, you could join this celebration practically at any Buddhist Temple in the country. #GiveThanks
