Welcome to the Yeon Deung Hoe (Lotus Lantern Festival), officially registered as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site! * Visit Seoul has captured the brilliant display of the diversely colored traditional lights at Cheonggyecheon Stream through these amazing shots. In Korea, it is common to hold a Lotus Lantern Festival in celebration of Buddha's birthday. The festival dates back to the Silla Dynasty (57 BC - 935 AD) and is a tradition that still continues on to this day! During this festival, when one lights a lantern, it becomes a symbol of prayer to Buddha asking for his blessing. The festival is set to be held online with the exhibition of lanterns on full display during the month of May along the main drag of Jongno, Cheonggyecheon Stream.
