Sarajevo: Where East meets West

Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is famous (or infamous) for the location of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in 1914, which led to the first world war. Right in the centre of the city you will find the old Ottoman quarter, full of bazaars, cafés and mosques. Just outside and surrounding the city centre you will see many buildings from the Austro-Hungarian period, when the Hapsburgs ruled over much of Central Europe. This ‘modern’ part of the city is very reminiscent of Budapest or Vienna. A visit to Sarajevo is a thrilling experience, as you really feel you’re stepping between two different words. #getgoing2025 #sarajevo #bosniaandherzegovina
