The first dam of the Yellow River thousands of miles away! (543)

Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project is located in the lower reaches of the middle reaches of the Yellow River, connecting Henan and Shanxi provinces. The dam is located between Zhongtiao Mountain and Xiaoshan Mountain, with Pinglu County in Shanxi Province to the north and Sanmenxia City in Henan Province to the south. In the old days, there were rocky islands in the Yellow River bed, which divided the Yellow River water into three branches flowing from west to east, so it was called "Sanmen Gorge"! The Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project, known as "the first dam on the Yellow River for thousands of miles", is the first large-scale water conservancy project built on the Yellow River after the founding of the People's Republic of China with the main purpose of flood control and comprehensive utilization! When the reservoir area is impounded every year from October to June of the following year, the Yellow River forms a beautiful lake here with sparkling blue waves as far as the eye can see. Every year from June to October of the following year, the dam begins to release water, and the Yellow River returns to its original appearance of rolling turbid waves and cascading thousands of miles! Construction started on April 13, 1957. The traffic interception was successful in December 1958🏆! It was basically completed in September 1960. On January 27, 2018, the Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project was selected into the first batch of China’s 🇨🇳industrial🏭 heritage protection list! It is a national AAA scenic spot!
