Salem it’s not just for witches

The town of Salem, Massachusetts is of course famous for its 1692 witch trails and the subsequent fascination that has developed around the town ever since, especially during Halloween. However famous this event was, the town itself does hold a fascinating history aside from witchcraft. One of the first places in the US to be settled by Europeans, Salem is home to one of the oldest wharfs in the country, the oldest sweatshop and the Custom House immortalised by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the Scarlet letter. #2024mapped #salem #history
