Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is a true example of Russian architecture, which stands out from other buildings in Saint Petersburg that are mostly Baroque and Neoclassical. Many people often compare this church to Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. Personally, I am most impressed by the interior decoration of this church. (I don't know if it's just my perception, but I see elements of early mosaics, which are very beautiful and different from other palaces or churches.) The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood was built by Tsar Alexander III to commemorate his father, Tsar Alexander II, who was assassinated at this location in 1881. The construction took over 20 years. Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881) survived several assassination attempts until the sixth attempt, where he was severely injured and lost a lot of blood, leading to his death at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. After Tsar Alexander III ascended to the throne, he built the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood at the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated (as shown in picture 6) as a memorial.
