Yokesone MonasterHtukkanthein Temple

Built in 1571 by King Min Phalaung as a fortress temple. It has a single entrance and small windows, and probably served as a refuge for the Buddhist order in wartime, quoting Wikipedia. Must pack a headlamp with spare batteries to view all the 180 Buddhas in niches and 179 smaller Buddhas along the corridors. But what adds much intrigue to this temple are the sculptures of court ladies flanking both sides of the niches, prostrating to the Buddhas. Each one wears a different traditional hairstyle reflecting the fashion of that time. Some held lotus flowers as an offering.
