Safranbolu, a World Heritage Site

Safranbolu is the best-preserved ancient city of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. Main attractions: Take a taxi to the Hidirlik Hill View Point Park at the highest point of the old city (entrance fee: 1.5 lira). Here you can overlook the entire old city. Then exit downhill from the back gate. The main attractions in the old city are the post house and two mosques, all of which are free. Then, from the other side of the old city, go uphill to the City Hall and Clock Tower to see the old city from another perspective (entrance fee: 5 lira). Afterward, return to the visitor center in the central square of the old city and take a bus to Gayza (2.5 lira per person). After a 20-minute ride, get off and walk for 15 minutes to the Kristal Cam Teras (Crystal Terrace, entrance fee: 5.5 lira) overlooking the canyon. The Roman Aqueduct is a two-minute walk away. Note that the entrance fee here is 4 lira, but it is completely unnecessary to pay. You can walk to the aqueduct along the free dirt road. Paying allows you to enter the canyon below the mountain and see the aqueduct from below. After coming out, take a taxi back to the hotel (25 lira). Taxis in Türkiye are very regulated. We never encountered refusals to carry or detours; every ride was metered.
