The building was originally the Palazzo Capponi, built in the 16th century, and was later used as a municipal office building for a long time. Alfredo Romeo, the founder of Romeo Hotels, purchased the building in 2012 and invited Zaha Hadid to design it in 2015. This also became one of the last projects Zaha worked on before her death in 2016. Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) used the "Arc of the Skyline" as a pen to give life to the tension of history. Thanks to their efforts, the 17th-century frescoes have been carefully preserved and meticulously restored, and have now become an important artistic heritage of the hotel. From the barrel vaults of the Roman period to the frescoes depicting heaven in the Baroque period, ZHA's design spirit is in line with the traditional forms of classical architecture. The Hotel Romeo Roma has 74 rooms, with curves and planes intertwined throughout the rooms and suites. In the comfortable and private spaces, there are carefully considered color palettes and lighting, as well as carefully planned works of art, and even 17th-century frescoes found and restored during the renovation in a few rooms. The recognition of the building's history is realized in an empathetic way, with the charm of the 16th-century palace perfectly blended with Zaha's almost futuristic vision.
