Wat Mahathat Worawihan is a third-class royal temple, Worawihan type, built since the reign of King Jayavarman VII of Cambodia, around the 18th Buddhist century, Khao Ngu Road, Na Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Ratchaburi District, Ratchaburi Province, located almost in the center of Ratchaburi, on the west bank of the Mae Klong River. It was originally called "Wat Na Phra That", "Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat". It was first built in the Dvaravati period, around the 13th Buddhist century. Later, around the 18th Buddhist century, Khmer culture from the Kingdom of Cambodia spread to Ratchaburi. Therefore, the religious site in the center of Ratchaburi was built and converted into a prang, and a laterite wall was built around it to be the center of the city according to the Khmer beliefs about the universe.
