The Mansion of the Duke Yansheng

The Kong Family Mansion, also known as the Mansion of the Duke Yansheng, is located in Qufu City, Jining, Shandong Province, China, on the east side of the Temple of Confucius within Qufu City. It is the residence of the descendants of Confucius who held the hereditary title of Duke Yansheng. It was first built in the tenth year of the Hongwu reign (1377) and rebuilt in the sixteenth year of the Hongzhi reign (1503), once covering an area of 240 mu. The Kong Family Mansion is primarily composed of buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, including halls, pavilions, towers, and verandas, totaling 463 rooms across nine courtyards. It is a typical Chinese aristocratic residence, often referred to as the "First Family Under Heaven." It served as the long-term residence of Confucius' direct descendants and is a typical example of the combination of official and residential buildings in China's feudal society.
