Quanzhou Chengtian Temple is one of the three major Buddhist temple complexes in Southern Fujian, second only to Kaiyuan Temple in size. At its peak, it housed more than 1,700 monks and covered an area of over 70 acres, hence it was also known as the premier temple in Southern Fujian. Chengtian Temple, also known as Yuetai Temple, was originally named 'Nanchan Temple.' It was built during the waning years of the Southern Tang Dynasty to the early years of the revival (957-958 AD), and was granted the name Chengtian Temple in the fourth year of the Jingde reign of the Northern Song Dynasty (1007 AD). 🌟 Highlights: The environment of Chengtian Temple is serene. In the past, it boasted ten scenic views: the reclining pines and refreshing breeze, the square pond and plum shadows, the morning sun through the rolling blinds, the shade of banyan trees at noon, the tower without perching birds, the bright moon over the jade platform, the rainy night by the thatched cottage, the bamboo sounds from the whistling hut, the parrot's song at dusk, and the stones resembling parrots.
