Catholic Church in Qingdao, China

The Catholic Church in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, is considered a symbol of the city. Designed by German architect Alfred Fräbel, this church was built in 1934 in a Gothic style, featuring two towers that seem to stretch toward the heavens. Situated on a hill, the two towers of the church can be seen from anywhere in Qingdao's old town. The year 1934, when the church was constructed, marked a period when the Germans who had developed Qingdao had left, and the Japanese had taken their place in the city.
