If you're exploring New Zealand's West Coast, Pancake Rocks and Blowholes in Punakaiki is a spot you shouldn’t miss. It offers a one-of-a-kind experience that’s both scenic and easy to access. The layered limestone rocks really do resemble stacks of pancakes—formed over millions of years by wind, rain, and ocean waves. The 15–20 minute loop walk is well-paved and takes you through lush greenery, with several stunning viewpoints along the way. If you visit during high tide, you’ll see sea water blasting through the blowholes, creating an incredible natural show that’s both powerful and mesmerizing. There’s plenty of free parking, and the nearby cafes and gift shops make it a convenient and enjoyable stop. It was a bit crowded when I went, which is understandable due to how easy it is to get to. Still, the views from the decks, the ocean breeze, and the raw beauty of the rocks made it absolutely worthwhile.
