Exploring the Charms of Porto

#getgoing2025 Porto, with its terracotta rooftops and cobblestone streets, feels like stepping into a painting. My day began with a walk along the Douro River, where traditional rabelo boats floated lazily, carrying a sense of history with them. Crossing the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, the view of the city’s vibrant houses stacked on the hillside took my breath away. No visit to Porto is complete without tasting its world-famous Port wine. At a cozy riverside cellar, I learned about the winemaking tradition and savored the rich flavors that define the region. Later, I explored the historic Ribeira district, its narrow alleys buzzing with life, and ended the day at the Livraria Lello. This bookshop’s intricate woodwork and dreamy staircase felt like stepping into a fairytale. Porto isn’t just a destination—it’s an experience filled with heart and soul. Let 2025 be the year you discover it.

Mercado do Bolhao

Bolhão Market in #porto is a fantastic spot if you’re looking for a snack-style meal rather than a full sit-down. It’s full of small stands offering all kinds of local bites, from cheese, olives, and fresh seafood like #oysters and sea urchins, to the classic sardines. You’ll also find some very Porto-style snacks like bolinho de bacalhau (fried codfish cakes) and frango com pêra (chicken croquettes shaped like a pear). There are also wine bars where you can grab a glass of vinho verde or port to pair with your food. What I loved most was being able to walk around, try different things, and soak in the lively, central atmosphere. It does get crowded, but that actually adds to the charm. Prices are about the same as you’ll see elsewhere in Porto, so you’re really paying for the variety and the experience. Definitely recommend for a casual lunch or light dinner.
