Day 5: Mount Wellington and Port Arthur Mount Wellington is located 20 km west of Hobart, about a 30-minute drive to the top, with an elevation of 1,270 meters. There is an observation deck at the top of the mountain, where you can overlook the entire city of Hobart and the Derwent River. In winter, you can also enjoy the snow. Mount Wellington is the first choice for tourists to see Hobart because of its unique geographical location. When you enter Port Arthur, you will see a wide lawn and the ruins of Victorian buildings, with a dazzling blue bay on the side. We first took a boat tour of the bay for about 20 minutes. It is hard to imagine that this was once the site of a prison that was feared by many. When I first saw Port Arthur, I thought it was a beautiful English manor. Is this a prison or a paradise? I couldn't help but say, "I really want to be locked up here." The most attractive thing about Port Arthur is that the ruins here have retained their original appearance from a hundred years ago. Although most of the buildings were destroyed by a fire in the late 19th century, the ruins add to the charm of the place. With mountains and water, and green trees, you can stroll through this long-gone prison and explore the history of freedom that was once out of reach. November 11, 2024
