This is a huge cross, located on the main artery of the city center, Montesinos Avenue. The avenue is wide and long, which makes tourists even more amazed at this monument, because it can be seen from a distance, and because there are no other buildings around, it looks even bigger from a distance. The monument specifically mentions the battle fought by the residents of the nearby city of Cotobade against the French. Apparently, they defended the French army with simple wooden cannons, which brought them good results, although some of them fell. The cross was installed at this place on the hundredth anniversary of the battle. The monument consists of a huge and slender stone cross, with three soldiers leaning against each other at the bottom. There are also two other steles next to the cross, representing the soldiers helping the comrades who died in the battle. This is a very eye-catching monument that leaves a deep impression. This great monument is located in the Alameda of the capital of Pontevedra, right in front of the bishop's palace (not to be confused with the soldier's monument at the other end of the Alameda). The Hero Monument of Puente Sampaio has been refurbished for a long time, in fact, it used to be surrounded by a large pond, now you can see in the photo, that pond has disappeared, leaving that huge stele, on which there are several bronze figures. The back of the monument reads: "To the heroes of Ponte Sampaio led by Morillo", commemorating the achievements of these Galicians in the War of Independence.
