Yuncheng Yuban Ancient Salt Road | Exploring the traces of ancient wisdom

|Explore the traces of ancient people’s wisdom. The Yuban Ancient Salt Road was first dug in the early Western Zhou Dynasty and was not abandoned until the early 1950s. This is only a documentary record, but in fact our ancestors have a long history of transporting salt, and the legend of "Yu digging Yuban" has been circulating in Pinglu. In ancient times, there were no advanced tools. In order to chisel away the hard bluestone, Dayu directed people to use both water and fire. They burned alum, salt and saltpeter from the salt pond on the stone, then extinguished it with water. After the stone cracked, they chiseled it away layer by layer. The principle of thermal expansion and contraction is used. Walking along the rugged mountain path, you will see lush greenery on both sides and the fresh fragrance of plants. Underfoot are deep horse hoof pits and ruts left by the long-term rolling of wooden carts. Through these historical traces, people today seem to see the bustling scene of salt transportation on the ancient road. There is a broken stone on the side of the road with the words "Qingshicao" written on it. Qingshicao is also the common name of the Yuban Ancient Salt Road. The whole road is very narrow, with a cliff on one side and a mountain on the other. The road was dug out from the hard rock. The chisel marks on the bluestone are very clear, which is the testimony to the wisdom of our ancestors.
