2024 Phuket Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
As an island paradise, Phuket is surrounded by many amazing beaches, hidden gems, and beautiful temples. It will surprise and delight visitors with its lush hills, friendly people, and mouth-watering cuisine. With hundreds of hotels to select from, easy transport options, and countless dining and shopping venues, Phuket caters to every conceivable need.Phuket is Thailand's largest island, together with 32 smaller islands that make up the southern province of Phuket. Linked to the Thai mainland by the Sarasin Bridge, it is often referred to as the “Pearl of the Andaman Sea” and one of Southeast Asia’s top tourist destinations. Phuket City is the capital of the province and is situated in the southeast of the island. Out of a population of around 437,000 people, the vast majority of them live in and around Phuket City and Patong Beach.Named after the Malay word bukit, meaning hill, Phuket was an important trading port in the region and noted in history as a major source of tin. Through the centuries, it came under more foreign influences than other parts of Thailand. In the early twentieth century, the expansion of rubber plantations resulted in the clearing of large areas of the island. Then in the 1970s, a burgeoning tourist industry started with the first beach bungalows at Patong beach. Today, almost 10 million visitors come to Phuket each year.Getting to the island couldn’t be easier as there are many domestic and international flights arriving at Phuket International Airport daily. Visitors can transfer to their final destination by metered taxis or limousine taxis, minivans, airport buses, as well as private hotel transfer and rental cars. Getting around town is also simple and convenient. In addition to reasonably priced taxis, visitors have to option to use authentic local transports like the tuk-tuks, songthaews and motorbike taxis. If you are visiting Phuket for the first time, you will soon discover that this island is much more than just about sun, sea, and sand. Explore the colorful lanes and shophouses of old town Phuket, soak up the atmosphere, and indulge in authentic Thai flavors. Be awe-struck by elegant temples like Wat Chalong and Wat Phra Thong. Immerse yourself in the unique local culture and way of life in the Muslim fishing village of Koh Panyee. And last but not least, take the adventure to the go-kart speedway, soccer crazy golf, or Thai box stadium.

Solo Adventure in Phuket: Elephants and Local Treasures
My solo trip to Phuket, and it was an incredible experience. One of the highlights was visiting an elephant sanctuary, where I got to feed these gentle giants bananas. It was a unique and heartwarming experience, witnessing their playful nature up close.
Another memorable part of my trip was exploring the chartered walking street in Phuket. The vibrant atmosphere was filled with local vendors offering delicious street food and beautiful handicrafts. I indulged in some amazing Thai dishes and found unique souvenirs to take home.
Made some new friends too.
Overall, Phuket was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and I can’t recommend it enough for solo travelers looking to immerse themselves in nature and local culture.
Japanese Restaurant in Phuket
Let's take everyone to enjoy Japanese cuisine in Phuket. This hidden gem is located in the Le Meridien Phuket hotel, named Ariake. It is a Japanese restaurant that also offers teppanyaki-style dishes.
You can order food here just like in any typical Japanese restaurant, or you can sit in the teppanyaki zone. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is relaxed and enjoyable.
The food uses fresh ingredients, whether it's various sashimi or tempura, your favorite Japanese dishes. The taste is excellent and delicious. If you prefer teppanyaki, there are options for both seafood and various meats, along with entertaining shows from the chefs.
Capture Street Art in Phuket Old Town.
Phuket
.. One of the top destinations in Thailand that both Thai and international tourists want to visit for its beautiful beaches.
.. Besides the beach attractions, trendy cafes, and Sino-European style old buildings, street art in Phuket is another activity where tourists can take photos and enjoy the art.
.. The street art is painted on the walls of buildings, telling stories and highlighting the unique features of Phuket in the old town area.
.. Especially the red turtle painting at the entrance of Romanee Road, which is a must-check-in spot for tourists.
Beautiful hotel by Patong Beach.
Introducing a beautiful hotel by Patong Beach in Phuket, located on a large hillside area. This is Amari Phuket Hotel. The rooms come in various types. We stayed in a One Bed Suite that includes access to the Coral Lounge where you can have breakfast. The hotel is large with a great atmosphere and beautiful photo spots. There is also a popular café called Jae Samut Café within the hotel. The breakfast is delicious and very diverse. The most popular photo spot is the afternoon tea area, which is designed like a bird's nest. Highly recommended for those who enjoy 5-star relaxation.
Relaxing in Phuket's Mai Khao Area
Enjoy a laid-back stay at Avani Maikhao Phuket, a hotel with a great atmosphere, close to the sea, and surrounded by greenery, away from the hustle and bustle.

The latest review of Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort.
On the last day of our trip to Phuket, we booked a hotel in Patong Beach.
This guide will share with you in detail the situation of the [Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort] we stayed in.
.
🏨Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort
📍Patong Beach, the closest to the airport among the three major beaches in Phuket, and the most lively
👇The hotel is round-trip to Phuket Airport, and there are 2 recommended transportation methods:
▪️Airport bus: 100 baht/person, from the airport to the hotel, you can show the driver the name of the hotel, and it is very convenient to get off directly at the door of the hotel; but if you go to the airport from the hotel, you need to walk to the station by yourself to wait for the bus
▪️Bolt taxi: about 550 baht, if the time is relatively tight, it is recommended to take a taxi directly, about 1 hour drive
.
🌴
▪️We compared the Sheraton and Courtyard hotels on Patong Beach. The prices of the two are similar, but Sheraton is closer to the beach
▪️The hotel is across the road from the beach and can walk to Patong Beach Night Market
▪️The outdoor wrap-around pool and infinity pool are both high in value, and the water depth of 1.2 meters is very friendly!
▪️At sunset, it is recommended to go to the infinity pool outside the hotel lobby to wait for the sunset. There are not many people, but the atmosphere is good~
.
🛏️
▪️Because it was the last night before leaving, we chose the basic superior double bed room
▪️The room area is not very large, but it is enough as a transition
▪️There are floor-to-ceiling windows, no balcony, and the pool is downstairs outside the window
▪️Because the hotel is relatively new, the facilities and decoration are satisfactory, and there is no problem with dampness
.
🍜
▪️I didn't experience the hotel's meals this time, so I'll give you some suggestions for dining around~
▪️You can take a taxi to the bar street near Patong Beach for dinner, there are many seafood and snacks
▪️There are several 711, coffee shops and fly shops nearby
.
💁
▪️To be honest, Sheraton's service is still commendable. Compared with the popular hotel Kata Thani, the difference is obvious
▪️The overall holiday atmosphere is also very good, with more Europeans and Americans
.

Phuket | This is the hotel of a lifetime for so many people.
Phuket | This is the hotel of a lifetime for so many people🏨
🙋🏻♀️It was my first time in Phuket. I didn't originally plan to stay in Patong, but I couldn't resist this forest-style hotel! Plus, it's under the InterContinental brand, so I felt reassured. The price was also good, so I booked it without hesitation!
😔My only regret is that I didn't stay in the hotel every day. I only realized how much I appreciated it in the last two days. Sunbathing and swimming in the hotel in the afternoon, getting a spa treatment in the evening, sitting at the outdoor bar or on the balcony... it was our ideal vacation.
Food✅: The breakfast was average, but the fruit was freshly cut by the staff, which was a nice touch. We had three meals at the hotel, which were much better than the food outside and not expensive. We could eat well for an average of 100 per person. There were many options for Thai, Western, and Indian food.
Facilities✅: The hotel was built in 2018 and is well maintained. There's also a unique small elevator.
Service✅: The air conditioning was turned on before we checked in, and there was a detailed check-in introduction and welcome chocolate. There's also a daily shuttle bus to the beach or mall, which can be reserved for pick-up and drop-off. The spa costs CNY 300 per person per hour, which I think is worth it. It was a very happy hour.
Location❗️: It's average. It's on a slope, so it's a bit of a hassle and hot to walk up and down every day! It's a ten-minute walk to Patong Beach, but it's very close to the mall and seafood market.
Price✅: We booked a room for early September a month in advance. The standard rooms range from about 800-1,100, and the sea view pool villas are about 2,300. The price is very good. A hotel of the same standard in Sanya would start at 1,500. Phuket is really suitable for hotel stays!!
🏨Dinso Resort, fun and playful, I'll come again next time❤️
Phuket Paradise: Discovering Thailand’s Tropical Gem
#awesomepic #couplestrip #bestsunset #phuket #karonbeach #100waysoftravel
Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, is renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. Nestled in the Andaman Sea, Phuket boasts an array of breathtaking beaches, each with its unique charm. Patong Beach is the most famous, known for its bustling atmosphere, water sports, and vibrant nightlife. For a more tranquil experience, Kata Beach and Karon Beach offer beautiful stretches of sand and crystal-clear waters, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Kamala Beach is another gem, featuring a laid-back vibe and stunning sunset views. For those seeking adventure, Freedom Beach is a hidden treasure, accessible only by boat or a steep trail, providing a peaceful escape surrounded by lush greenery. My stay is at Avista Grande Karon Beach, you’ll be ideally located to enjoy Karon Beach’s serene atmosphere while having easy access to the lively activities and attractions nearby.
Key attractions in Phuket extend beyond its beaches. Big Buddha, a towering 45-meter-tall statue, sits atop Nakkerd Hill and offers panoramic views of the island. The vibrant old town of Phuket, with its colorful Sino-Portuguese architecture, showcases the island’s historical charm. Visitors can explore local markets, art galleries, and quaint shops while enjoying traditional street food. Phang Nga Bay, famous for its limestone cliffs and emerald-green waters, is best explored by boat, with James Bond Island being a popular stop due to its appearance in the film The Man with the Golden Gun.
Located in the Andaman Sea, Phuket enjoys a tropical climate, making it a year-round destination. However, the best time to visit is from November to February, when the weather is cooler and less humid, ideal for outdoor activities and beach lounging. The monsoon season, which runs from May to October, brings heavy rains, particularly in September and October, but this is also a great time for quieter beaches and lower prices.
Phuket is a seafood lover’s paradise, with an abundance of fresh catch available at local markets and beachfront restaurants. Visitors can indulge in a variety of dishes, from grilled fish and spicy shrimp salad to the famous Tom Yum Goong (spicy shrimp soup) and Pad Thai. The island’s night markets, such as the Phuket Weekend Market, offer an array of seafood delicacies, allowing travelers to savor the flavors of the sea in a vibrant atmosphere.

Phuket's Annual Festival
Another significant annual event in Phuket is held during the seventh month of the Chinese calendar, known as the Por Tor Festival. This festival is dedicated to honoring ancestors. Throughout Phuket, various communities organize celebrations, but the main venue is the Por Tor Kong Shrine in Phuket Town, next to Baan Bang Niew Municipal School. There is a walking street near the shrine and numerous stalls selling turtles, which symbolize longevity. These turtles come in various prices and are offered to the deity of the festival, Por Tor Kong, an incarnation of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, for good fortune. Visitors during this period are encouraged to visit and pay respects for their own prosperity.

The restaurant is located within The Surin Hotel, a large luxury hotel. Dining here is an impressive experience, not only because of the beautiful view but also the delicious taste of the food. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing, with a perfect blend of Thai-style flavors. For those interested, it is recommended to reserve a table as it gets crowded in the evening. It is a very romantic dinner, with the chance to see the sea view and, if lucky, the sunset. It is recommended to order a set menu to try various dishes. The total cost, including service charge and tax, is approximately 3,000 Baht.
The new internet-famous hotel in Phuket, Nai Yang Beach, is the king of cost performance.
Hey guys~👋 Today I want to recommend a new treasure hotel I recently discovered in Phuket-Bella Nara Nai Yang Beach Hotel! 🏨 It only opened on December 31, 2022, and the service and facilities are first-class, which will definitely leave you unforgettable memories in Phuket! 🌴
🛫[Super close to the airport] It is only 3km from the hotel to Phuket International Airport, and it takes less than 10 minutes by taxi, which is super convenient! Especially for those of us who arrive late or catch an early flight, it's simply too intimate! ✈️
🏖️[Beach view] The beach is across the road, and you can see Nai Yang sunset when you go out, it's so beautiful! The children had a great time on the beach, and we adults also enjoyed a leisurely holiday. 👶🏖️
🛏️[Awesome guest room] The hotel's guest rooms are very well decorated and fully equipped, including umbrellas, in-room safes, and LCD TVs! There are also electric kettles, coffee pots/teapots, which are simply necessary artifacts for home travel! 🛋️ What surprised me the most is that the room leads directly to the swimming pool. I can see the sparkling pool water when I wake up every day, and my mood has improved! 🏊♂️
🍽️[Surrounded by food] The hotel's cafe is comfortable and suitable for rest and relaxation. If you want to taste local food, there are many restaurants nearby to choose from, such as Baan Phutawan's Thai food, Phuket Wine Lounge's bar/pub, Vero Italian Trattoria and Wine Bar's Western food, all taste great! 🍴
💪[Fitness and relaxation] The hotel also has a fitness room, which can relieve physical and mental stress. Especially for those of us who want to keep in shape during the trip, it's simply a gospel! 🏋️♀️
👩💼[The front desk sister is awesome] The front desk SANA sister has a super good service attitude, let us see the room before check-in, which makes people feel very warm. The hotel is relatively new, the room facilities are good, and the cost performance is super high! 👍
🎈[Summary] In general, Bella Nara Nai Yang Beach Hotel is really a treasure! Near the airport, beautiful beach, good room, lots of food, full facilities! Especially for those of us who like leisure vacations, it's simply a perfect choice! 💖

Wat Chai Thararam (Wat Chalong), Phuket.
🛕 Wat Chalong is a sacred and ancient temple that has been a cornerstone of the Phuket community for a long time. It was famously led by Luang Por Cham, who was renowned for his healing abilities and great compassion. Although he passed away over a hundred years ago, his reputation and virtues remain in the memories of the people and continue to be a spiritual refuge, especially for the residents of Phuket to this day.
There is a story that Luang Por Cham led the villagers in fighting against the Chinese rebels (Ang Yi) who were causing trouble and attempting to take over Phuket. He distributed protective talismans to the villagers to safeguard them and boost their morale, leading to their victory. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) learned of this and bestowed upon Luang Por Cham the ecclesiastical title of "Phra Kru Wisutwongsajarnyanmuni," making him the highest-ranking monk in Phuket at that time. The temple was also renamed from Wat Chalong to Wat Chai Thararam. Additionally, Phra Kru Wisutwongsajarnyanmuni (Cham) was granted a ceremonial fan of rank equivalent to that of a high-ranking monk.
Luang Por Cham passed away in 1908, and upon his death, it was found that he had only 50 coins left. His funeral was the grandest ever held in Phuket, and possibly the entire southern region.
เที่ยวได้กิน-กินได้เที่ยว Wandering Through Phuket Old Town: A Colorful Escape
Visiting Phuket Old Town is a fantastic experience, rain or shine. Even during the rainy season, the vibrant streets filled with unique old houses are a delight to explore. The architecture here is a charming mix of Sino-Portuguese style, with bright pastel colors and intricate details that make for great photos.
As you wander around, you’ll discover cozy cafes, quirky shops, and local markets that add to the lively atmosphere. The rain can actually enhance the experience, as the colors of the buildings pop against the gray sky, creating a beautiful contrast.
Don’t forget to stop by some of the street art murals that decorate the area—they’re perfect for capturing fun, memorable snapshots. The best part? The rain usually brings fewer crowds, allowing you to soak in the charm of Phuket Old Town at your own pace. Whether you're sipping coffee at a local café or just enjoying the sights, this area has a unique energy that’s captivating, even in the rain.
