Chandrakasem Palace@Ayutthaya

Chandrakasem Palace or Wang Na is located on the bank of the Pa Sak River (Khlong Khu Khue Na), Hua Ro Sub-district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It is a palace that appears in the royal chronicles, presumably built around 2120 during the reign of King Maha Thammaracha as a residence for King Naresuan the Great when he traveled from Phitsanulok to visit his father in Ayutthaya. King Naresuan used this palace as a headquarters for the battle of Hongsawadi in 2129. It has also been the residence of 8 important kings and crown princes, namely King Naresuan the Great, King Ekathotsarot, Prince Suthat, King Narai the Great, Khun Luang Sorasak (King Suea), King Thaisa, King Borommakot, and Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon Mahasena Phithak. After the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time in 2310, Chandrakasem Palace was abandoned. During the reign of King Rama IV in 1861, he ordered the construction of a palace and a pavilion. Therefore, it was renovated and used as a residence when he visited Ayutthaya. He named it Chandrakasem Palace on March 26, 1893. Later, during the reign of King Rama V, Phraya Boran Ratchathanin collected many important objects from the old capital and nearby areas and kept them at Chandrakasem Palace. In 1902, His Royal Highness Prince Damrong Rajanubhab recommended that Phraya Boran Ratchathanin establish a museum called Boran Museum, using the Royal Stable Building as a storage area.
