Wat Mahathat, the historical center

Wat Mahathat in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province is an important historical site built during the reign of King Borommarachathirat I (Khun Luang Pha Ngua) to enshrine the relics of the Lord Buddha in the heart of Ayutthaya. The highlight here is the famous Buddha head in the Bodhi roots. There is also a prang and old brick ruins that reflect the past glory. Currently, Wat Mahathat is part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park and has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
