Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya Historical Park

Wat Mahathat is located within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, near Wat Ratchaburana. It is a royal monastery built during the reign of King Borommarachathirat I (Khun Luang Pha Ngua) around 1374 AD. However, the construction was not completed before his death. The temple was later completed during the reign of King Ramesuan, who ordered the construction of the main prang and enshrined the Buddha's relics under its base around 1384 AD.
