The word Mahayongkhon is the name of a chedi that is important in Sri Lanka. Originally, this temple was a royal monastery of the Vipassana sect that was very important since the Ayutthaya period. King Borommarachathirat II built it and renovated it many times, but it became a deserted temple since the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time, more than 200 years. Until the year 2527, Phra Khru Kasem Thammathat established a meditation center in the temple area. Everything was taken care of, the area was adjusted to be shady and quiet, free from disturbances. And the Fine Arts Department itself has come in to excavate and restore it to be beautiful for the eyes of those who come to see it today. And Wat Mahayongkhon has been registered as a national historical site. As for the area outside the historical site Religious activities such as Vipassana meditation training and special Dhamma practice training are regularly organized.
