Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom is actually the site of an ancient city from the Angkor Dynasty. It was first built in the late 9th century and completed in 1186. The ancient city has four gates, one in each direction, and each gate has a four-faced statue of the king. On both sides of the gate are two rows of statues. The left side represents the good and just gods, while the right side represents the evil gods. Angkor Thom has many attractions, the most representative of which are Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm Temple. Bayon Temple is not large in scale, but its walls are exquisitely carved, recording the history of ancient China helping the Angkor Dynasty resist invasion. Ta Prohm Temple is said to have many treasures, and was severely damaged by foreign invaders and colonizers. The most representative features of the temple are the many trees that wrap around the towers and walls. These ancient trees have developed root systems and are quite spectacular. Angelina Jolie's "Tomb Raider" was filmed here. In addition to the two ancient temples, Angkor Thom also has many temples, archways, the Twelve Zodiac Towers, and more. Walking among them, it feels like traveling through time and space, having a conversation with history. The only downside is that the vendors at the entrance of Ta Prohm Temple are relentless in selling all kinds of inferior handicrafts, which is really disappointing.
