Wat Mahathat Worawihan

Wat Mahathat Worawihan, Phetchaburi Province is an important temple in Phetchaburi and is an ancient temple that is assumed to have been around since the Dvaravati period, as many ancient artifacts from that period were discovered within the temple grounds. It was influenced by the art of the Khmer Empire. Inside the Royal Vihara, there is an important Buddha image, namely the principal Buddha image wearing royal regalia and royal robes. There is also Luang Pho Saksit of Wat Mahathat, which is a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, 8 inches wide on the lap, holding a fan in the left hand, which the locals call Luang Pho of Wat Mahathat. Inside the Royal Vihara, every wall has beautiful murals, both Jataka tales and the gathering of gods. The pediment is decorated with stucco designs, the image of Narayana riding a garuda fighting a naga, with a monkey king carrying a garuda on another layer. The background is a scrollwork pattern. The flowers have a large tail pattern, in the shape of Garuda, Naga, Giant, etc. The five-tiered prang can be seen from afar in all four directions. The base is 55 meters long and the base is 120 meters wide. It is approximately 1,000 years old. Inside, the relics of the Buddha are enshrined. Around the prang is a square-shaped gallery. In the gallery, there are 193 Buddha images on the gallery, with a carrier at the base of the Buddha.
