Perth City- Elizabeth Quay and Bell Tower

During my visit to Perth, I spent an afternoon exploring Elizabeth Quay and the Bell Tower, two of the city’s most iconic attractions located right on the Swan River. Together, they showcase a mix of modern design, local culture, and a relaxed waterfront vibe that makes Perth so enjoyable. Elizabeth Quay is a lively waterfront precinct that feels like the city’s front porch. The sweeping views of the Swan River are stunning, especially on a clear day when the water sparkles under the sun. The area is beautifully designed with pedestrian bridges, open plazas, and art installations, making it a great place for a leisurely stroll. Families were enjoying the water playground, while couples and friends gathered at riverside cafés and bars. I walked across the striking Elizabeth Quay Bridge, which offers perfect photo opportunities of the skyline and the river. There’s also public art dotted around the area, such as the towering “Spanda” sculpture, which adds a modern artistic touch. The quay really comes alive at sunset, when the lights of the city begin to reflect off the water. Just a short walk away is the Bell Tower, one of Perth’s most distinctive landmarks. The building itself is striking, with its glass-and-copper spire rising above the quay. Inside, the highlight is the historic set of Swan Bells, a collection of 18 bells, some of which date back to the 14th century from St Martin-in-the-Fields in London. Visitors can watch bell-ringing demonstrations and even try ringing the bells themselves, which was a unique hands-on experience. The exhibitions inside explain the history of the bells and their connection to Western Australia, giving the tower more depth than I expected. The best part of the Bell Tower, however, is the observation deck at the top. From here, the views over the Swan River, Elizabeth Quay, and the Perth city skyline are simply breathtaking. It’s not as high as some city towers, but because of its riverside location, the perspective feels open and expansive. Practical notes: Elizabeth Quay is free to enter and perfect for wandering at your own pace. The Bell Tower has an entry fee, but it’s quite reasonable, especially for the experience and the views. Both attractions are easily accessible from the city center by foot or public transport. Overall, Elizabeth Quay and the Bell Tower complement each other perfectly—modern, vibrant, and uniquely Perth. Together, they make for a relaxing yet memorable outing along the riverfront.
