Whale Cave on Xiaomen Island

When traveling to Penghu, besides visiting the smaller islands, there are also many attractions on the main island. To explore these spots, it is highly recommended to rent a scooter or a private car. We rented a private car for 1,600 TWD for 24 hours, which was enough to visit almost all the attractions in two days. One of the most memorable spots this time was Whale Cave on Xiaomen Island. It takes about 35 minutes to drive there from Magong. There is a parking lot near Xiaomen Beach, and after parking, you can head towards the Xiaomen Geological Exploration Hall. Along the way, there are plenty of shops and eateries where you can stop by before heading to the exploration hall or directly climb the stairs to the observation deck. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a stunning sea view. Walking about 4 minutes to the right, you'll find Whale Cave, whose shape is instantly recognizable. To get a closer look at Whale Cave, you can follow a small path that leads you to see the whale's head, tail, and the cave formed by erosion from seawater. After reaching the tail, you'll notice two rocks that, when viewed from the side, resemble two toads together—this is the Toad Couple Rock, which is quite amusing. Afterward, you can return along the same path towards the exploration hall, passing by various shops before retrieving your car from the parking lot to head to the next destination.
